Dog Skin Problems

My Old English Sheepdog has terrible skin problems

My six year old Old English Sheepdog has been losing hair on his flanks and his back.

I am reluctant to change his diet because he had so many digestive problems when he was young.

The vet has run a variety of tests including for Cushing’s Disease (negative) and thyroid problems (inconclusive).

He has been neutered and it was shortly after this procedure that the problems occurred.

Your dog needs a change of diet

The holistic approach to addressing this problem would be to determine whether it was an “Excess” or “Deficient” skin problem.

Skin problems falling into the ‘Excess’ category indicates that the patient is toxic from the inside out.

Thus any inflammations, eczema, itchy skin, chewing feet, flare ups, hotspots, excess shedding etc are simply the body’s attempt at “burning –off“ of toxic-waste in the body.

"Deficient" skin disorders tend to be much more chronic and rather than the problem simply coming from toxic-waste material making its way to the surface, waste material is now coming from the surface and working itself into the body.

In the case of the Old English Sheepdog described above; I would suggest that the problem is an ‘excess’ condition and the tell tale sign is the timing of the problems.

When the dog is neutered (or a bitch spayed) a lot of the hormonal activity is also removed resulting in a reduced energy requirement.

This simply means the dog needs less food of the right kind.

Remember, excesses leading to toxic-waste accumulation, can arise from too much protein, fat, salt, sugar, poor quality ingredients and chemicals in the diet.

A change of diet, fed in the correct proportions, increased exercise and bottled or filtered water should get the result you require.

Allow 12 – 16 weeks of strict control of the diet although a good herbal formula for excess skin problems will help get your dog back to full health and vitality.
